Springer and EPMA collaborate to launch new book series

STM publisher Springer will launch a new book series in collaboration with the European Association for Predictive, Preventive and Personalised Medicine (EPMA). The first volume in the series Healthcare Overview: New Perspectives will be published at the end of 2012. Approximately three books will be published each year.

Wiley and O'Reilly Media sign ebook distribution deal

Technology publisher O'Reilly Media recently announced an agreement with global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Beginning immediately, O'Reilly will become an online distributor for Wiley's extensive technology ebook programme, which includes such leading brands as Wrox, Sybex, and For Dummies.

ALPSP to preserve with CLOCKSS Archive

The CLOCKSS Archive has announced a partnership with the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). Under the deal, CLOCKSS will preserve the Association's ejournals and ebooks in CLOCKSS's geographically and geopolitically distributed network of redundant archive nodes, located at 12 major research libraries around the world.

DOAB User Needs Analysis released

The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) recently released the final report of the DOAB User Needs Analysis. This report is based on the experiences, needs, and expectations of users as they emerged from a survey, an online discussion, and a panel at the recent OASPA conference.

Dr. Hamish Meldrum and Dr. Kiran Patel join BMJ Group Board

Medical information provider The BMJ Group has announced that the immediate past chairman of BMA Council, Dr. Hamish Meldrum, and Dr. Kiran Patel, a consultant cardiologist, are joining the BMJ Group Board as non-executive directors from November, 2012. Dr Brian Keighley, Chairman of BMA Scotland and Deputy Chairman of the BMJ Group Board, is standing down after 10 years as a non-executive.

Golden Gate Capital to acquire Ex Libris Group from Leeds Equity Partners

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that Golden Gate Capital, a prominent San Francisco-based private equity firm with $12 billion in capital under management, has entered into an agreement to acquire Ex Libris from its current owner, Leeds Equity Partners. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Registration deadline for scholarly communication workshop on strategic skills extended

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication have announced that the early-bird registration deadline has been extended for the ARL-ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication (ISC) workshop. Interested parties may now register by November 30, 2012, at the discounted rate of $175 per person. The rate will increase to $225 from December 1.

AAUP names Peter M. Berkery, Jr. as incoming Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) has named Peter M. Berkery, Jr., the next Executive Director of the Association, starting March 1, 2013. Berkery comes to AAUP from Oxford University Press, where he has served for the last 4 years as Vice President and Publisher for the US Law Division.
