CAS and NIH Library collaborate to provide enterprise-wide access to SciFinder

Chemical information provider Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), a division of the American Chemical Society, has announced a collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Library to provide enterprise-wide access to SciFinder. Scientists across NIH can now have on-demand access to what is claimed to be the most complete and authoritative chemistry content in the world.

Elsevier acquires patient education solutions provider, ExitCare

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the acquisition of ExitCare, LLC, an enterprise-wide solution for patient education and discharge instructions. ExitCare provides peer-reviewed patient education and discharge instructions to support clinicians, empower patients and help providers meet their patients' educational needs. The acquisition is effective immediately and financial terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.

Thomson Reuters study explores Apple's mobile technology patent portfolio

The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters has released the results of its study of Apple's mobile technology patents. The findings, which are featured in the Thomson Reuters paper, "Inside the iPhone Patent Portfolio," details patent and litigation activity across Apple's 1,298 mobile patents.

Brazilian Ministries of Health and Education provide over 900,000 healthcare professionals with access to DynaMed

The Brazilian Ministries of Health and Education have made evidence-based clinical reference DynaMed available to more than 900,000 healthcare professionals throughout the country. The ministries, in a partnership with the CAPES, the Brazilian Federal Agency for the Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education, have created a portal called Evidence-based Health to provide access to the latest clinical information in order to improve medical decisions and diagnoses.

Technical professional organisation IEEE has partnered with The MIT Press to offer access to a special selection of computing and engineering eBooks as part of the IEEE Xplore digital library. The MIT Press is a university press affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Springer opens new sales offices in Istanbul

STM publisher Springer recently expanded its international operations to include Turkey. The new offices in Istanbul have been in operation since June, and will be officially opened by Peter Hendriks, President Publishing Business Media at Springer, on September 13, 2012. The new offices will be managed by Sitki Aktas, Licensing Manager, who has been responsible for Springer's business in the eastern Mediterranean and central Asian regions since 2008, primarily working out of the Netherlands.

RSC pledges £1 million aid for UK chemical science researchers to publish OA papers

The RSC has recently pledged £1 million to aid UK chemical science researchers to publish open access papers in RSC journals. This gesture has been followed by the UK government, with an announcement on that it will invest £10 million to support the transition to OA.

Cambridge University Press and European Political Science Association set to launch new journal

Academic publisher Cambridge University Press and the European Political Science Association (EPSA) have announced a partnership to publish a new peer-reviewed political science journal from 2013. The new journal of the EPSA, Political Science Research and Methods (PSRM) will be an international political science journal dedicated to publishing original scholarly work of the highest quality from all fields of political science.
