Elsevier's Policing in America: Exam Cram app now available exclusively on the App Store

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the release of Policing in America: Exam Cram, the third in a new series of apps for the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad based on Elsevier books. The first two apps, NeuroApps: MRI Atlas of Human White Matter and ChemApps: Strategic Applications of Named Reactions in Organic Synthesis (SANROS), are also available on the App Store.

Serials Solutions' Summon discovery service expands coverage of open access scholarly content

Serials Solutions, a ProQuest business, has announced new agreements with three publishers of scholarly open access journal and book content. As a result of these agreements, libraries using Serials Solutions' Summon service can now offer researchers more access to freely available resources outside of their own collections.

US federal judge approves DoJ's e-book settlement with three publishers

US Federal Judge Denise Cote has approved the DoJ's settlement with publishers Hachette, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster. The Authors Guild opposed approval of the settlement, believing that the DoJ could address the alleged collusion without requiring three publishers to allow Amazon to resume predatory pricing.

UK govt. invests £10 million to help universities move to open access

The UK government has announced a £10 million investment to help universities with the transition to open access to publicly-funded research findings. This will enable a number of UK institutions to develop policies and set up funds to meet the costs of article processing charges.

OCLC receives $4.1 million grant to support ongoing operations of WebJunction for five years

Library information provider OCLC has received a $4.1 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support five years of ongoing operations of WebJunction, the learning place for libraries. Built with grant funding from the Gates Foundation and launched in 2003, OCLC's WebJunction has helped more than 70,000 library staff build the job skills they need to meet the challenges of today's environment.

The Ringgold Challenge survey notes 76 percent of publishers not making best use of their data

Journal supply chain support provider Ringgold Inc has released findings from its recent survey, The Ringgold Challenge. The results indicate room for improvement in how publishers are applying customer data such as that relating to journal subscriptions, usage or submissions.

Cambridge University Press names Prof. Timothy Cox as new Editor-in-Chief of Expert Reviews in Molecular Medicine journal

Academic publisher Cambridge University Press has announced the appointment of Professor Timothy Cox as the new Editor-in-Chief of its journal Expert Reviews in Molecular Medicine.
