Research institutes, data repositories among ORCID's launch partners

ORCID has announced that participants in the ORCID Launch Partners Program include research institutions, publishers, research funders, data repositories and third party providers. ORCID is launching its public Registry in October, at which time individuals may register for an ORCID identifier.

Serials Solutions' Summon service expands discovery of Chinese content, adds academic content from CALIS

Serials Solutions, a ProQuest business, has announced that the Summon service has further expanded its discovery of Chinese content with the addition of academic content from CALIS, the China Academic Library and Information System. The new agreement allows the Summon Service to include abstracting and indexing metadata of 560,000 dissertations and theses.

SAGE publishes report following roundtable in association with the British Library

Academic and professional publisher SAGE convened a roundtable in association with the British Library into the role of the academic library in an open access (OA) future in April this year. Chaired by publishing consultant Simon Inger and attended by an international panel of 14 senior librarians and other industry experts, the conclusions of this discussion have been published in a report, 'Moving towards an open access future: the role of academic libraries'.

ESF releases report on pan-European professional development network

The ESF has released a new report detailing its feasibility study on a pan-European professional development framework. The aim of the study was to assess the applicability across Europe of a generic framework for the professional development of researchers based on the Vitae Researcher Development Framework.

Wyoming Community Colleges select Ex Libris' Primo solution to provide unified search experience

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced the selection of the Primo discovery and delivery solution, bX Recommender, and SFX link resolver by Wyoming Community Colleges. Wyoming joins other states including Virginia, Florida, Hawaii, and Wisconsin where community colleges have adopted Primo statewide.

Dove Medical Press appoints Dr B. Sonny Bal to direct Open Access Surgery journal

Open access publisher Dove Medical Press has announced the appointment of Dr. B. Sonny Bal as Editor-in-Chief of Open Access Surgery journal. Dr. Bal is an associate professor who specialises in hip and knee replacement at the University of Missouri, Columbia (MU), where he also serves as division chief for hip and knee surgery.

Michel Wensing and Anne Sales join Martin Eccles as co-Editors-in-Chief of Implementation Science journal

Implementation Science, published by open access publisher BioMed Central, has announced that Michel Wensing from Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Netherlands, and Anne Sales of the Veteran Affairs Center for Clinical Management Research, US, have joined Martin Eccles as co-Editors-in-Chief. Wensing and Sales previously served as Associate Editors of the journal.

Cambridge Dictionaries Online launches new API and free demo site for developers

Academic publisher Cambridge University Press has announced that a new Cambridge Dictionaries Online API (Application Programming Interface) will make it easy for web developers to embed data from Cambridge Dictionaries onto their website or into their mobile apps. In addition, the Press has made available a demo site where developers can try out the API with Cambridge dictionary data free of charge.
