Inaugural SSP London regional event - a new opportunity for cross-stakeholder discussion on the industry's necessary evolution

The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) held its inaugural London event in Covent Garden on March 15, 2018. Liz Allen, Director of Strategic Initiatives at F1000, spoke about the changes we're seeing, and need to see, in the scholarly communications landscape. Her presentation was provocative and informative, and it stimulated many questions-both immediately, from the audience, and afterwards, about whether the industry is moving quickly enough to support the rapid changes in what researchers require.

London Book Fair announces inaugural Freedom to Publish seminar

The London Book Fair (LBF) has announced the inaugural Freedom to Publish seminar, curated with the International Publishers Association (IPA) Censor, Advocate, or Disruptor? The Role of Publishers in an Evolving Publishing & Media Landscape on April 10, 2018, the first day of LBF. The seminar will follow on from discussions that took place in New Delhi at the IPA's 32nd International Publishers Congress.

Springer and the Hellenic Endocrine Society announce publishing partnership

Springer, part of Springer Nature and a global scientific, technical and medical portfolio, and the Hellenic Endocrine Society have signed a three-year agreement to publish the quarterly journal Hormones: International Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Starting in March 2018 with volume 17, the journal will be available exclusively in electronic format on the platform SpringerLink. Previously the journal was published by the Hellenic Endocrine Society.

Open Dissertations project from EBSCO Information Services and BiblioLabs goes live

OpenDissertations.org, the project from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and BiblioLabs, has gone live. More than 800,000 Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) are now available for public search and discovery, with more than one million expected by June. In addition to the fully open website, EBSCO will include ETD metadata in EBSCO Discovery ServiceTM to facilitate access and improve content discovery for researchers.

Project MUSE and Knowledge Unlatched announce partnership

Project MUSE, a provider of digital Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) content, and Knowledge Unlatched (KU), the central platform for the sustainable funding of Open Access (OA) models, have announced their partnership. Under the agreement, Project MUSE will host all Open Access books from non-commercial publishers unlatched through KU since 2014.

SPIE appoints Kent Rochford as new CEO

SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, has announced Kent Rochford as its new CEO. A strong technical background in the field of optics paired with a long career in organisational management and advocacy of scientific research makes Rochford the ideal candidate to follow Eugene Arthurs, who will retire from SPIE on 2 June.
