American Geophysical Union and Wiley launch new OA journal - Earth and Space Science

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and the American Geophysical Union (AGU) have announced the creation of a new all open access peer-reviewed journal, Earth and Space Science. Marking AGU's second new open access journal in the last 12 months, Earth and Space Science claims to be the only journal that reflects the expansive range of science represented by AGU's 62,000 members.

Genesis Medical Center selects Wolters Kluwer Health's software for documentation and coding

Wolters Kluwer Health, a global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, has announced that Genesis Medical Center has selected ProVation Medical software for cardiology procedure documentation and coding in its cardiac catheterization lab. ProVation MD Cardiology claims to be the only dedicated procedure documentation and coding solution that improves clinical communication and efficiency within and outside the cath lab.

McGraw-Hill Education acquires Area9

Digital learning company McGraw-Hill Education has acquired Area9 Aps, an adaptive learning company, which the company has partnered with to deliver personalised learning experiences through technology since 2007. In January 2013, McGraw-Hill Education purchased a 20 percent equity stake in Area9. The latest agreement covers the 80 percent of the equity in Area9 that McGraw-Hill Education did not already own. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

STM publisher IOS Press has announced the appointment of Popke Huizinga as Director, effective February 1. The announcement was made by Dr. Einar Fredriksson during Huizinga's 20th anniversary celebration on February 4th. Dr. Fredriksson will stay involved in the day to day business of IOS Press.

SHARE releases Notification System Project Plan

The SHared Access Research Ecosystem (SHARE) - a joint initiative of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the Association of American Universities (AAU), and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) – has released the SHARE Notification System Project Plan. The plan details the first in a series of activities to be undertaken by SHARE to ensure that scholarly research outputs are discovered and built upon in a manner that facilitates and accelerates the research process.
