Elsevier announces new concept methods journal: MethodsX

STM publisher Elsevier has announced a new concept methods journal: MethodsX. By providing a home for often unpublished records, MethodsX allows researchers to receive public credit and citations for that work without spending time writing a full, traditional research article. The first articles are currently freely available online on ScienceDirect: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2215016114000028.

ProQuest and OCLC continue collaboration to offer improved discovery, access to popular full-text content

ProQuest has announced that more than 320 million records from 88 collections in the ProQuest Central database are now discoverable, and the full text associated with those records is now accessible to mutual subscribers through OCLC WorldCat Discovery Services. The new discovery experience is the result of a data exchange agreement signed in 2013 by OCLC and ProQuest to enhance library discovery for users of WorldCat Discovery Services and the ProQuest Central full-text database.

Access to Research initiative begins two year pilot

Students, independent researchers and small businesses can now access many of the world's best academic papers across science, technology, medicine and other disciplines through their local libraries. This is the result of a unique collaboration between librarians and publishers, who have made their journal content available for free to UK libraries under a new initiative, Access to Research.

Journal EvoDevo to publish embedded video files in article PDFs

Open access journal EvoDevo, published by BioMed Central, is now able to publish embedded video files in article PDFs. Readers can download and store the PDFs, enabling them to watch videos offline and in the optimal context alongside the rest of the manuscript. With the click of a button you can watch videos in PDFs wherever and whenever you like.

McGraw-Hill Education to acquire Engrade

Digital learning company McGraw-Hill Education has agreed to acquire Engrade, the developer of an open digital platform for K-12 education that unifies the data, curriculum and tools that educators use every day to drive student achievement and inform district educational strategy. Terms of the deal, which is expected to close imminently, were not disclosed.

Rheumatology journal appoints new editor

International, peer-reviewed scientific journal Rheumatology has announced the appointment of Prof. Jacob van Laar as the new editor. Prof. van Laar is a Professor of Clinical Rheumatology at Newcastle University and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at the James Cook University in Middlesborough. He will take over from the current editor Prof. Robert Moots.

The American Library Association to preserve Library Resources & Technical Services with Portico

Anne Lemnitzer and Timothy C Siegel appointed new Co-Editors of DFI Journal: The Journal of the Deep Foundations Institute

Academic publisher Maney Publishing and the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) have announced the appointment of Anne Lemnitzer and Timothy C Siegel as the new Co-Editors of DFI Journal: The Journal of the Deep Foundations Institute. They will succeed lead editors Ali Porbaha and Dan Brown, who are stepping down after being Editors since the Journal's inception, and Zia Zafir, who will remain on the editorial board.
