IOP Publishing and The Japan Society of Applied Physics announce publishing deal

IOP Publishing, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Physics, and The Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP) have announced a five year agreement for the publication of Applied Physics Express (APEX) and The Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (JJAP). These titles are English language journals currently self-published by The Japan Society of Applied Physics.

Dr. Temple Grandin co-edits new edition of Elsevier classic reference work - Genetics and the Behavior of Domestic Animals

STM publisher Elsevier has announced that Dr. Temple Grandin, a well-known animal behaviour and autism expert, co-edited a revised edition of the classic reference work Genetics and the Behavior of Domestic Animals along with her colleague Mark Deesing. Grandin is a professor at Colorado State University, as well as an industry consultant developing animal welfare guidelines for commercial meat packing companies, ranches and other food-related corporations.

LCA files amicus brief in support of HathiTrust and its partners

The Library Copyright Alliance (LCA) recently filed an amicus brief in support of HathiTrust and its partners as they defend their district court victory on appeal in the Second Circuit. LCA consists of three major library associations that collectively represent over 300,000 information professionals and thousands of libraries of all kinds throughout the US and Canada.

Sabanci University in Turkey goes live with Ex Libris Primo

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that Sabanci University in Turkey is now in production with a cloud-based implementation of the Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution. In addition, the university has subscribed to the bX article recommender service - also cloud based - and has moved its SFX OpenURL link resolver to the Ex Libris cloud environment.

DeepDyve announces new '5-Minute Freemium' service

DeepDyve, a research engine for the Deep Web, has announced a new 'freemium' offering whereby users can preview the full text of any article for free for five minutes per day. With just an email address and password, users can sign up in seconds and gain free access to more than 8 million articles from 3,000 peer-reviewed journals that previously resided behind paywalls.

Maryland's Howard County Library System named 2013 Library of the Year by Gale and Library Journal
