Serials Solutions, a ProQuest business, is working with NetAdvance to make content in JapanKnowledge discoverable via the Summon discovery service. Metadata for 13 reference titles from the largest and most reliable provider of Japanese-language content, including encyclopaedias, dictionaries and citation indexes will be indexed and available to mutual subscribers of each company's service.

Use of social media in academia growing significantly year on year, says new survey

A new survey of colleges across Scotland shows that social media, and particularly YouTube, has firmly entered the learning environment as teaching and learning tools, with its use growing significantly year on year. In the 2012 ETNA (Enhanced Training Needs Analysis) survey, carried out by the Jisc Regional Support Centre (RSC) in Scotland, nearly three quarters of academics in further education agree that social media tools enhance the quality of the learning experience.

Oxford University Press to publish new Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology

Academic publisher Oxford University Press has announced the publication of the Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology (JSSAM), sponsored by the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and the American Statistical Association (ASA). The journal, available in print and online, is edited by Joe Sedransk, Professor Emeritus of Statistics at Case Western University, and Roger Tourangeau, Vice President at Westat.

Cambridge University Press announces major restructure of academic business

Academic publisher Cambridge University Press has reportedly announced the first major restructure of its academic business for more than 20 years. The initiative will see the Press combine its books and journals departments and also create a new 'global' board. The new board will be based across Cambridge, New York and Asia.

MLIS student at McGill University bags 2013 Roger K. Summit Scholarship award

Information resources and technologies provider ProQuest has awarded the 2013 Roger K. Summit Scholarship to Allana Mayer, an MLIS student at McGill University in Montreal. The scholarship - named in honour of Dialog founder Roger K. Summit, a pioneer in developing online information retrieval services - was presented June 9 at the Special Libraries Association's annual conference in San Diego.
