CAS and the Council of Australian University Librarians partner to provide unlimited access to SciFinder

Chemical information provider Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), a division of the American Chemical Society, has signed an agreement with the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) for unlimited access to SciFinder. CAUL comprises 39 academic institutions in Australia, including the University of Melbourne, Australian National University and the University of Sydney.

Malaysian university, Thomson Reuters hold event on evidence-based research evaluation

University of Malaya and Thomson Reuters jointly organised a conference on evidence-based research evaluation. The 'Conference on Institutional Perspectives on Evidence-Based Research Evaluation' garnered debate on research performance metrics used by institutions around the world, and which were particularly relevant and important in Malaysia's context.

Springer announces impact factor increases for 2011

STM publisher Springer Science+Business Media has announced significant increases in impact factors throughout its journal portfolio, according to the 2011 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), published by Thomson Reuters. A total of 62 Springer journals earned their first impact factor this year, bringing the number of journals Springer now has in the database to 1,469.

JISC Collections to provide UK universities streamlined access to Knovel

JISC Collections, the membership organisation that supports the provision of digital content for education and research in the UK, and Knovel have signed a new three year agreement which gives UK universities and colleges streamlined access to Knovel. Knovel is a Web-based application integrating technical information with analytical and search tools.

Oxford University Press launches new OA journal - Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) and the Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health Foundation have announced the launch of an open access journal - Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health (EMPH). The journal will publish original, rigorous applications of evolutionary biology to problems in medicine and public health, and research that seek to advance basic evolutionary biology by studying issues that arise in the medical sciences.

National Library of Medicine adds five new collections to digital oral history holdings

The History of Medicine Division of the National Library of Medicine recently added to its online oral history content 130 interviews, over 6,800 pages of transcripts and 50 hours of audio content, along with five new special collections.
