Elsevier and the Society for Vascular Surgery launch new journal

STM publisher Elsevier and the Society for Vascular Surgery has announced the launch of a new quarterly journal - Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders. The inaugural issue will appear in January, 2013. Elsevier currently publishes the Journal of Vascular Surgery on behalf of the Society.

Nature Publishing Group and National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences sign digital preservation deal

Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group (NPG) and National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) have signed an agreement to provide long-term digital preservation of NPG's content in Beijing. Under the deal, the NSLC will establish and maintain an archive of Nature, the Nature research and Nature Review journals, and all NPG-owned journal current content.

EBSCO awards two public libraries with one-year subscriptions to LibraryAware

Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) has awarded two public libraries with one-year subscriptions to LibraryAware, an online programme designed to maximise libraries' promotional resources, helping them to integrate outreach with customisable, scalable tools and resources. The winners were chosen by drawing at a LibraryAware launch party attended by more than 300 people during the Public Library Association Conference in Philadelphia.

NISO members approve project to formalise SIP as American National Standard

The voting members of the National Information Standards Organization have approved a new project to formalise the 3M Standard Interchange Protocol as an American National Standard. The SIP protocol provides a mechanism for Integrated Library Systems applications and devices to communicate seamlessly to perform self-service transactions.

BMJ Group appoints Tim Brooks as CEO

ebrary has announced a new Android app that will be freely available on Google Play this summer. The app works with e-books acquired under all of the company's acquisition models. This includes the 75,000 titles available through Academic Complete, an aggregated e-book subscription model.
