Veritas Capital completes acquisition of Healthcare Business of Thomson Reuters

Thomson Reuters has announced the completion of the $1.25 billion sale of the Thomson Reuters Healthcare business to an affiliate of Veritas Capital. The company's many well-known brands, established in more than 30 years of leadership in the healthcare industry, include Advantage Suite, Action OI, MarketScan, 100 Top Hospitals, CareDiscovery and Micromedex.

EBSCO and ALA co-sponsor seven scholarships for librarians to attend the ALA Annual Conference

EBSCO, in co-sponsorship with the American Library Association (ALA), has awarded seven librarians $1,000 scholarships to attend the ALA Annual Conference. The conference is scheduled to be held at Anaheim from June 21-26, 2012.

McGraw-Hill Education partners with Western Governors University to establish 'Pay-for-Performance' business model

Education materials publisher McGraw-Hill Education and Western Governors University (WGU) have announced an agreement to establish a 'pay-for-performance' model in which McGraw-Hill will receive variable compensation for those WGU students who use MHE technology and services for a particular course and pass. Under this new pricing structure, the university will pay a significantly discounted flat fee for McGraw-Hill's course materials.

Oxford University Press launches offsite mobile access support for mobile journals users

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced that users of its mobile-optimised journals service can now authorise their mobile devices for offsite access to institutional subscriptions. The new service builds on the 2011 launch of mobile-optimised across OUP's journal websites, which can be accessed from any smartphone.

BMJ Group appoints Dr James Cave as editor in chief of The Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin

Medical information provider BMJ Group has announced the appointment of Dr James Cave, a practising GP in Newbury, Berkshire, as the new editor in chief of The Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin (DTB). The position of editor in chief is a first for the recently redesigned and expanded title, which celebrates its 50th birthday this year.

CALJ members express concern over cuts to Library and Archives Canada and the National Archival development programme

The newly-elected President of the Canadian Association of Learned Journals (CALJ), recently addressed a strongly worded letter to Prime Minister Harper and Heritage Minister James Moore, in which, he expressed the deep concern of CALJ members at recent cuts to Library and Archives Canada and the National Archival development programme. Dr. Frits Pannekoek warned that the government threatens to make much of the scholarship done by those who disseminate their work in the Association's journals impossible to accomplish.

German library consortium's union catalogue now fully searchable via Primo Central

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that the German library consortium Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund (Common Library Network, or GBV) will now offer its users online access to its extensive union catalogue via the Primo Central Index of scholarly e-content. The GBV consortium consists of more than 430 academic, public and research libraries in seven German states.
