Elsevier divests local author books portfolio in Brazil to GEN

Elsevier, a global information analytics business specialising in science and health, part of RELX, has sold its Portuguese-language books portfolio in Brazil to Grupo Editorial Nacional (GEN). Elsevier also signed an agreement to license the translation and distribution of certain Elsevier titles in Portuguese to GEN. Elsevier's Science, Technology and Medicine (STM) portfolio in Brazil of over 1,000 titles spans several disciplines and includes both locally authored content and local editions of Elsevier's flagship titles such as Netter, Guyton, Cecil, Sabiston, Potter and Krause.

Karger Publishers taking steps to advance the transition to Open Access in scholarly publishing

Dr. Cathrin Weinstein appointed Managing Director of Thieme USA

Dr. Cathrin Weinstein has been appointed Managing Director of Thieme USA, with immediate effect. The company, based in New York, is one of four international subsidiaries of Thieme Group. Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, has announced that New Zealand's Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology has chosen the Ex Libris campusMTM cloud-based mobile platform to provide a mobile-accessible portal that will increase student engagement in campus life. The campusM platform will replace a home-grown solution. The institute's original mobile infrastructure—a browser-based page of links—lacked real-time information and data, creating a sub-optimal user experience, with students having to click several times to access the information that they need.

The call for applications for best publisher user experience award is now open. OpenAthens has launched this award to inspire publishers across the globe to invest resource into developing the best user journey to content. The deadline for applications is September 30, 2019, with a shortlist announced in February and the winner named at the OpenAthens Conference 2020 in March.
