2019 New Directions Seminar to explore 'the good, the bad, and the ugly' in scholarly publishing

The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has announced the program for its 2019 New Directions Seminar, now in its third year. This year, SSP will explore ways publishers and industry leaders are creating new business models, new technologies, and new approaches to new challenges through keynote presentations, panel sessions, and roundtable discussions. The seminar will be held October 2-3 in Washington, DC, USA.

ProQuest collaborates with five academic publishers for development of the Rialto Marketplace

A group of global academic publishers have announced that they will contribute their expertise to the development of ProQuest Rialto. Rialto is a comprehensive marketplace that enables libraries to acquire content from a variety of publishers and platforms. Emerald Publishing, Oxford University Press, SAGE Publishing, Taylor & Francis Group and The University of Chicago Press will work with ProQuest to shape the new product.

Physical Review Research publishes its first papers

The American Physical Society (APS) has announced the inaugural issue of Physical Review Research. The journal has published its first content less than two months since opening for submissions in June. Demonstrating the journal's broad, multidisciplinary scope covering all of physics and related fields of interest to the physics community, the first release of peer-reviewed research articles includes advances in the areas of materials science, quantum information, soft matter, plasma science, optics, and condensed matter physics.

Cochrane-WHO collaboration on qualitative evidence syntheses in guidelines showcased in new articles

A series of papers highlighting innovative work carried out by the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care Group and the World Health Organization on using reviews of qualitative research in guideline development processes has been published in Health Research Policy and Systems. The Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care (EPOC) Group, as well as other Cochrane contributors, has a long-standing relationship with WHO and works closely with them on guideline development.

OCLC receives Diversity in Business Award

OCLC, the non-profit technology organisation and global library cooperative based in Dublin, has received a Diversity in Business Award representing large organisations in Central Ohio. The awards program, administered by Columbus Business First, recognises inclusive organisations and individuals in Central Ohio. The program highlights excellence in encouraging diversity in age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race and religion at local workplaces.
