New report suggests higher scholarly impact if South Asian countries collaborate globally, but intra-regional collaboration may be key to tackling local challenges, says new report

A joint report by Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, and the World Bank, shows that over a five-year period between 2012 and 2016, the South Asian region published 679,571 papers, accounting for 5.3 percent of the world's scholarly output—increasing the region's share of global scholarly output by 1.7 percentage points over the study period. The region's widely-diverse profile of population size, economic output, geographic features, natural resources, cultural characteristics, development priorities, national education, and research policies account for large variations in the respective level of scholarly output.

Web of Science Group appoints Nicko Goncharoff as Managing Director, Business Development for Greater China

The Web of Science Group, part of Clarivate Analytics, has appointed Nicko Goncharoff to the newly-created role of Managing Director, Business Development for Greater China. Reporting to CEO Annette Thomas, he will work closely with the existing team in China, led by David Liu, Executive Vice President, Managing Director for Clarivate Analytics, Asia Pacific, and Linda Guo, Vice President, Head of Web of Science Group, Greater China region.

Wiley collaborates with Google Cloud to support learners for Google's Cloud certifications

Publisher John Wiley and Sons, Inc. announced a new collaboration with Google Cloud aimed at providing a range of resources to support learners in the fast-growing market for Google's Cloud certifications. The first title to be published as part of these resources is the Official Google Cloud Certified Associate Cloud Engineer Study Guide, to be published by Sybex, a Wiley imprint.

The American Geographical Society selects Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group as new publisher of Geographical Review

The American Geographical Society (AGS) has selected Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group as the new publisher of its longest running journal, Geographical Review (GR). First published in 1915, Geographical Review is the successor to The Bulletin [and Journal] of the American Geographical Society which began publication in the 1850s.

IOS Press publishes new book - Ontology Makes Sense, to honour Nicola Guarino

STM publisher IOS Press has announced the publication of Ontology Makes Sense, a book in honor of Nicola Guarino. The book is a tribute to his many scientific contributions to the discipline of applied ontology, which he established. Guarino is widely recognised as one of the pioneers in formal and applied ontology. Renowned – and sometimes even criticised – for his deep interest in the subtlest details of theoretical analysis, throughout his career he has held the conviction that all science has to be for the benefit of society at large.
