SEMANTiCS 2019 to bring together industry leaders and data scientists in Karlsruhe

To develop a digitisation strategy is the major challenge for companies handling large amounts of data. This also involves dealing with artificial intelligence and semantic technologies. How to implement these megatrends into operational processes and workflows will be one of the key subjects of the SEMANTiCS 2019. At this international conference, held from September 9 to 12 in Karlsruhe, top speakers from industry and science will present trends and recipes for successfully using AI systems.

OASPA seminar to tackle some enduring areas of OA concern and confusion

The Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) will host a seminar preceding the SSP annual conference next month in San Diego. The pre-meeting seminar entitled Fact or Fiction? OASPA Lifts the Lid on Open Access Publishing will take place on the morning of May 29th at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. The session can be booked independently of the full SSP conference.

AIChE and Wiley release inaugural issue of the Journal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and its publishing partner John Wiley and Sons, Inc., have released the inaugural issue of the Journal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing — a peer-reviewed journal that captures leading-edge manufacturing techniques and technologies that reduce costs, save energy, and create solutions that address societal needs. Matthew Realff (Georgia Institute of Technology) serves as the journal's editor-in-chief.

2018 USTR Notorious Markets List includes problematic sites named by publishers

The Association of American Publishers has welcomed the announcement by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) of the 2018 Special 301 Out-of-Cycle Report of Notorious Markets. The inclusion of problematic online and physical markets on the list encourages the market operators or responsible authorities in the countries associated with such markets to intensify efforts to combat piracy in their markets.

Future Science Group starts using Jisc's Publications Router service

Future Science Group (FSG) has begun supplying full-text articles to Jisc's Publications Router service, enabling onward distribution to institutional repositories. All journals published by Future Medicine, Future Science and Newlands Press will henceforward send articles to Jisc's Publications Router, as they are published, meaning that ahead-of-print and subsequently version of record articles will be available in institutional systems in time to meet REF deadlines.
