Jisc and Springer Nature renew transformational deal securing OA for UK higher education

Jisc and academic publisher Springer Nature have agreed a further 'read and publish' agreement that meets the aims of Plan S and offers researchers a funder compliant route to publishing in hybrid journals. Plan S requires that, from 2020, scientific publications funded by public grants must be published in Open Access journals or platforms.

University of Kentucky partners with Wiley Education Services for online program support

Wiley Education Services, a division of Wiley that provides tailored services and technology solutions to higher education institutions, and the University of Kentucky have entered into a partnership to offer the College of Social Work's Master of Social Work online, launching in Fall 2019. The partnership has its roots in University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto's ambitious agenda to enhance the University's profile as the state's land-grant and flagship research university.

Open Access: it is about more than just journal articles

For Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities respectively over 40% and over 60% of output consists of not being regular journal articles. Solely looking at journal articles ignores a significant share of their contribution to research and society. This is an important finding of a research into publication cultures commissioned by VSNU and carried out by Utrecht University Library.

Publishers welcome 2019 USTR Special 301 Report addressing continuing copyright protection and enforcement concerns

The Association of American Publishers (AAP) has welcomed the release of the 2019 Special 301 Report by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). The Special 301 Report continues to be a critical tool for policymakers to identify and highlight barriers that impede the ability of U.S. copyright owners to compete in foreign markets, including markets of importance to the publishing industry.

American Institute of Physics awards UMD $1M to endow professorship in history of natural sciences

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has confirmed a $1 million pledge to the University of Maryland's College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU) to help uncover stories of scientific discovery while illuminating complex societal issues that scientists and scholars in the humanities both face. The gift will establish an endowed professorship in the history of natural sciences and support the appointee's humanistic and scientific research and scholarship through a partnership with AIP's Center for History of Physics.
