Open Access sales exceed expectations and will continue to scale upwards, says new Simba report

Media and publishing intelligence firm Simba Information has released a report, according to which the global push for open access (OA) to research papers, once viewed as a threat by traditional journal publishers, has delivered a fast-growing revenue stream that will continue to scale upwards. The report, Open Access Journal Publishing 2018-2022, found that while sales of all scholarly journals grew at a compound annual rate slightly over 1% between 2015 and 2017, open access journals grew at a compound annual rate well into the double digits.

Springer Nature to publish new journal focusing on research into child abuse and neglect

Springer Nature has announced that it will publish a new journal on research into the prevention, control and mitigation of child abuse and neglect, starting June 2018. The International Journal on Child Maltreatment: Research, Policy and Practice will present all aspects of research dealing with the prevention, control and mitigation of child abuse and neglect.

Emerald posts best ever Impact Factor results

Emerald Publishing has achieved its best ever Impact Factor results, as it continues to celebrate research impact in all its forms. Overall citations are up by 41%. Average Impact Factor increased by 25%, with 77% of Emerald titles seeing higher Impact Factors. The fifteen journals receiving their first ever Impact Factor scored particularly well, with an average new Impact Factor of 1.891.

Entomological Society of the America names Frank Zalom as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Economic Entomology

Entomological Society of the America (ESA) has announced the appointment of Frank Zalom as the new editor-in-chief of its scientific journal, the Journal of Economic Entomology. Zalom will succeed John Trumble, professor of entomology at UC Riverside. Trumble, editor-in-chief for 20 years, informed ESA in late 2017 of his intent to leave the role in 2018.
