Latest version of Thomson Reuters ProView professional eReader platform launched

Thomson Reuters has announced the latest version of Thomson Reuters ProView, professional eReader platform. The new version of ProView provides annotation management, PDF creation and sharing, and library sorting features, helping users to get the most out of their ProView eBook titles. It is available for iPad and Android tablets, and for Windows and Mac computers.

Oxford University Press launches new OA journal - Oxford Medical Case Reports

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced the launch of a new medical journal, Oxford Medical Case Reports (OMCR). OMCR is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal publishing original and educationally valuable case reports that expand the field of medicine. The first OMCR content will be published in April 2014.

Taylor & Francis, Figshare partnership to make research more discoverable

Academic publisher Taylor & Francis has announced a partnership with Figshare, an online repository which enables researchers to securely host, publish and share all their research. Authors who publish with Taylor & Francis journals will see their supplemental material in a new online format, as tables, datasets, filesets, videos and graphs become instantly viewable on Taylor & Francis Online, easily discoverable from search engines and quickly hosted on Figshare.

American Psychological Association to publish American Journal of Orthopsychiatry

The American Psychological Association (APA) recently announced that it has become the publisher of the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry (AJOP). The journal is the principal publication of the American Orthopsychiatric Association, and reflects the Association's purpose to facilitate the generation and exchange of knowledge relevant to the development and implementation of policies and practices consistent with the promotion of mental health and social justice, including the protection of human rights.

Brill journal content directly available through INASP as part of Brill's Developing Countries Program

Scholarly publisher Brill and INASP have signed an agreement to make Brill journal content directly available through INASP as part of Brill's Developing Countries Program. Brill content is already included through EBSCO, but starting in 2014, the journal content will also be offered directly through INASP. Brill operates on a global scale and increasingly authors and editors are coming from developing and emerging countries for whom access to peer-reviewed, high-quality academic information is crucial.

ARL-SAA Digital Archives Specialist Courses 2014 open for registration

Registration is now open for the Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) courses being offered by ARL and the Society of American Archivists (SAA) at several ARL member libraries in 2014. Registration for these courses are open to all librarians and archivists. ARL and SAA have designed a weeklong immersion in four core courses of the DAS program for ARL library staff to take alongside their peers.

Library of Congress and OCLC sign agreement for enhanced access to cataloguing services and applications

The Library of Congress and the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) have signed a cooperative agreement that will allow mutual subscribers seamless access between the Library's Cataloger's Desktop and Classification Web subscription services and OCLC's WebDewey and WorldShare Metadata Manager subscription services. Catalogers who subscribe to any of the services independently will now be able to toggle between them instantly and easily.

Springer adds altmetrics information to all articles available on SpringerLink

STM publisher Springer has added altmetrics information to every article available on SpringerLink, the publishing company's online platform. The data is provided by Altmetric, a London-based start-up which tracks and analyzes the online activity around scholarly literature. The addition of this feature makes the alternative metrics that measure the impact of research (or, "altmetrics") more readily available to users by adding it to the abstract page for every article.

First OA articles sponsored by SCOAP3 international initiative now available

The first Open Access articles sponsored by the SCOAP3 international initiative are now available. Almost 400 articles have already appeared in the first three weeks of 2014 in the journals of participating publishers. All articles sponsored by SCOAP3 are distributed under a CC-BY license and can be freely downloaded and redistributed. They can be immediately accessed from the websites of the participating publishers and, soon, from the SCOAP3 Repository.

Library Copyright Alliance submits statement for scope of fair use

The US House of Representatives Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet recently held another hearing on copyright review. In advance of the hearing, the Library Copyright Alliance (LCA) submitted a written statement discussing how libraries rely on fair use in order to serve their users and meet their mission, how the federal government relies on fair use for photocopying and in the patent examination process, and how rights holders rely on fair use in developing new works.
