US Reps introduce FASTR bill to expand access to federally funded research

US Representatives have introduced the Fair Access to Science and Technology Research Act (FASTR). It would require federal agencies to provide the public with online access to research manuscripts stemming from funded research no later than six months after publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

ACS Catalysis awarded the AAP's PROSE Award for 'Best New Journal in Science, Technology & Medicine'

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced that its journal ACS Catalysis has been awarded the Association of American Publishers' (AAP) prestigious PROSE Award for "Best New Journal in Science, Technology & Medicine." Launched in January 2011, the journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Christopher W. Jones, New-Vision Professor in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

Microbial Cell Factories invites submissions to new thematic series on Systems biotechnology and metabolic engineering

Microbial Cell Factories, an open access journal published by BioMed Central, has called for submissions to a special thematic series on Systems biotechnology and metabolic engineering. The series will focus on systems approaches to microbial biotechnology, spanning up-stream strain (cell and organism development by metabolic engineering) to mid-stream (fermentation and other unit operations) and down-stream processes.

Creative Commons License to apply to all OA content published by De Gruyter

Academic publisher De Gruyter and Versita will be publishing all Open Access content under the uniform application of Creative Commons license CC BY-NC-ND, effective immediately. Creative Commons license CC BY-NC-ND is already the basis for the publishing contract concluded just days ago between De Gruyter and the Max Planck Society for the publication of Open Access books.

Brill's Linguistic Bibliography Online migration now complete

Online publishing services provider Semantico Ltd. recently migrated Brill's Linguistic Bibliography Online from a stand alone site to the existing Brill bibliography site: bibliographies.brillonline.com. The Linguistic Bibliography Online is a cross-searchable linguistic database with over 300.000 records and 20.000 titles arranged according to a detailed state-of-the-art classification.
