Springer Nature updates policy to encourage preprint sharing for its journals

Springer Nature has announced an updated policy encouraging preprint sharing for Springer Nature journals. This intends to remove ambiguity on two important points. All Springer Nature journals will adopt a unified policy that encourages preprint sharing and provides further details on preprint licensing, citation and communications with the media.

Atairos acquires ownership position in ProQuest

ProQuest, a global leader in educational technology, and Atairos, an independent private company focused on supporting growth-oriented businesses, have announced that Atairos will acquire an ownership position in ProQuest. ProQuest will use the proceeds from the transaction to repurchase most of the shares owned by entities affiliated with the Merchant Banking Division of Goldman Sachs, which will retain a minority interest in the Company. Cambridge Information Group (CIG) will maintain its majority ownership of ProQuest.

DOAJ reaches its funding target to cover operational costs

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) has reached its funding target to cover its operational costs as outlined in its SCOSS application. Eight consortia and 175 institutions/organisations from 18 different countries have committed support to DOAJ. There are organisations that have already made the decision to help fund DOAJ, but are still deliberating over the details of their financial commitment. Furthermore, the SCOSS Board has allowed DOAJ to present a new work package, both to these organisations and any additional organisations that come forward in 2019.
