China set to become global leader in AI research, says new Elsevier report

Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, has released a new study, according to which, China is growing in importance as a global leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, and there is an increasing trend of researchers moving from academia to industry, especially in the United States. This first-of-its-kind analysis charts Artificial Intelligence research trends across the world, with a focus on China, Europe and the United States, and finds a global 'brain drain' from academia to the private sector.

Emerald Open Research now open for submissions

Academic publisher Emerald Publishing has announced that its new open access platform, Emerald Open Research, is now open for submissions. Created in partnership with F1000, the platform, which is new and pioneering for the social sciences community, offers authors immediate publication followed by transparent open peer review, and supports an open data policy. This means all data sets - as well as the research - will become freely available to reuse, repurpose, and redistribute.

CLOCKSS to preserve University of Michigan Press ebook collection on Fulcrum

The CLOCKSS Archive has announced that the University of Michigan Press and CLOCKSS have signed an agreement for the preservation of the e-books in University of Michigan Press's forthcoming UMP Ebook Collection which will be hosted on the innovative Fulcrum publishing platform. Initially this will include over 1000 backlist books from University of Michigan Press and around 80 new titles a year for direct sale to libraries.

Scholastica announces archiving and indexing automations for OA journals

Scholastica, a vanguard academic journal software and service provider with tools for peer review and open access publishing, has announced new archiving and indexing automations. Scholastica now offers automated article and metadata deposits for the Portico digital preservation archive and for the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The new automations are in line with Scholastica's mission to modernise all areas of publishing, helping OA journal publishers do more with fewer resources.

SourceData and BioStudies to implement new publication workflow

SourceData in collaboration with EMBL-EBI's BioStudies now offers an integrated workflow to make published data openly accessible and easy to find. EMBO's SourceData is an open platform that makes the data in research papers directly searchable. SourceData describes the contents of figures from scientific articles in a standardised, machine-readable format, allowing articles to be searched and interlinked using their data content.
