Elsevier receives nine first prizes at 2018 BMA Medical Book Awards

Elsevier, the global information analytics business specialising in science and health, has received nine first prizes at the 2018 BMA Medical Book Awards ceremony. Out of 670 titles submitted to the BMA from publishers around the globe, a total of 41 Elsevier professional and scholarly products were honoured, including nine first prizes and 32 Highly Commended recognitions.

SAGE Publishing announces sponsorship of Public Editor

Academic Publisher SAGE Publishing has announced a $50,000 sponsorship of Public Editor, a high-scale content analysis tool that involves digital volunteers in multi-layered, simultaneous assessments of news articles. A nonpartisan project, the tool uses transparent, neutral criteria to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of news articles resulting in credibility scores for the news.

Wolters Kluwer highlights patients as underutilised resource in fight against sepsis

Wolters Kluwer Health has highlighted the critical role of patients, as 4,000 hospitals in the US react to public reporting of sepsis quality scores on Medicare's portal, Hospital Compare, which poses potential reputational and financial risks. Sepsis now accounts for more than 12 percent of all hospital readmissions-far exceeding rates of heart disease, pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
