Elsevier announces inclusion of a Simplified Chinese user interface to Scopus

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of a Simplified Chinese user interface to Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. The interface enables Chinese users to search and discover scientific literature in their local language. In addition to the localised interface, all Scopus help files have been translated into Simplified Chinese to ease product understanding amongst users.

Springer and the Japan Geoscience Union to collaborate on new open access journal

STM publisher Springer and the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU), the organisation that represents most of the earth and planetary science societies in Japan, have launched the new open access journal Progress in Earth and Planetary Science (PEPS). The peer-reviewed online journal is part of the SpringerOpen portfolio. All articles are freely and permanently accessible on Springer's platforms SpringerLink and SpringerOpen.

Wolters Kluwer Health honoured with 19 APEX Awards for Excellence in Publishing

Healthcare information solutions provider Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that 13 of its Lippincott Williams & Wilkins-published journals won 19 awards in the 26th annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence Competition. Neurology Today, published on behalf of the American Academy of Neurology, and Nursing 2014 won the Grand Award for Excellence in the category of writing.

PlumX to include usage statistics from EBSCO databases

Metrics from Plum Analytics will now include usage statistics for articles and books that are available from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) databases and EBSCO Discovery Service. The article-level data from these databases will allow Plum Analytics' product PlumX to provide usage statistics on articles and books from tens of thousands of providers.

AAP statement on BISG withdrawal from Bookstats joint venture

On June 19, the Book Industry Study Group Board voted not to renew its joint agreement with the Association of American Publishers to continue as co-producers of the annual BookStats survey capturing the estimated size and scope of the publishing industry. BISG's decision also does not affect AAP's commitment to serve as a primary source of data for all sectors of the publishing industry.

Five IOP journals to switch to electronic only

Non-profit scientific publisher IOP Publishing (IOP) has announced that five of the company's research journals will become electronic only and will no longer print paper editions. This transition will take effect with the 2015 subscription year and affects Biofabrication, Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, Biomedical Materials, Journal of Breath Research and Physical Biology.

Semantic Web Journal celebrates Web at 25 with Linked Data installation

All around the world people are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the invention of the Web. The Semantic Web Journal, published by IOS Press, is participating in these festivities by launching its new Linked Data-powered digital installation. The installation takes bibliographic data from WWW conferences between 1994 and 2014 and currently consists of two major components.
