Elsevier launches new enhanced version of Pure, improves research networking and funding discovery capabilities

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of Pure 5, an enhanced version of its leading research information management system, and part of the Elsevier Research Intelligence portfolio of tools and services. The release of Pure 5 improves the system's research networking capabilities resulting from the integration of SciVal Experts into Pure earlier in the year.

ProQuest adds over 1,650 ebook titles from Wiley and Wolters Kluwer Health to Academic Complete

ProQuest has added more than 1,650 ebook titles from publishers Wiley and Wolters Kluwer Health to Academic Complete, the flagship ebook database from ebrary. The new content will improve research outcomes, while a new enhancement for the database - the popular LibraryThing for Libraries Book Display Widget - will enable libraries to easily display the titles visually for better discoverability and usage.

EBSCO increases number of databases available via its open metadata sharing and technology collaboration policy

Library resources provider EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has increased the number of databases that are included in its policy for metadata sharing and technology collaboration partnerships with discover vendors. Now, EBSCO makes all metadata (and full text when contractually allowed) available for a new total of 179 EBSCO full-text databases, as well as all 74 EBSCO full-text historical digital archives and all 550,000+ EBSCO eBooks.

Controversial Frontiers in Innovation, Research, Science, and Technology bill moves forward

On May 28, 2014, the US House of Representatives Science, Space, and Technology Committee passed the Frontiers in Innovation, Research, Science, and Technology (FIRST) Act of 2014, H.R. 4186. The bill is highly controversial and opposed by many organisations and institutions. The legislation now moves to the House floor. The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation is expected to begin consideration of America COMPETES shortly.
