NISO publishes recommended practice on promoting transparency in library discovery services

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has announced the publication of a new recommended practice, Open Discovery Initiative: Promoting Transparency in Discovery (NISO RP-19-2014), which provides specific guidelines on participation in the new generation of library discovery services. The NISO Open Discovery Initiative (ODI) began work in 2011 to develop recommendations that would increase transparency across all aspects of indexed discovery services.

Elsevier launches Geofacets Connector for Schlumberger Petrel and Studio, makes exploration seamless for Geoscientists

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of Geofacets Connector for Schlumberger Petrel and Studio. Geofacets Connector for Petrel and Studio integrates hundreds of thousands of maps and associated papers seamlessly with the Petrel platform's analysis and workflow tools. Using Geofacets Connector for Petrel and Studio, geoscientists can query a specific area or topic and, via a single interface, combine geo-referenced maps and scientific data from Geofacets with 2D and 3D geological and geophysical models created on the Petrel platform.

EBSCO announces support for open discovery initiative recommendations

Library resources provider EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) fully supports the final recommendations of the Open Discovery Initiative (ODI) working group for best practices for discovery services. Libraries and archives set for tense copyright negotiations in Geneva

Copyright negotiations commence once more in Geneva, Switzerland, at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), where a proposed international framework supporting copyright exceptions and limitations for libraries and archives is likely to be the subject of intense discussion among Member States.
