Plan S under spotlight at LBF's Research & Scholarly Publishing Forum

The London Book Fair 2019's Research and Scholarly Publishing Forum, scheduled to be held on March 13, 2019, will tackle the key issues and trends facing academic publishing, including the impact of 'Plan S' on publishing business models, and the latest on OA monographs. The conference will be chaired by Rachel Bruce from UKRI, and Information Power's Alicia Wise. Keynote speaker David Sweeney is Executive Director of Research England, as well as the Co-Chair of the Plan S Implementation Committee.

UpToDate Advanced now available for all Veterans Health Administration's clinicians

Wolters Kluwer, Health, a provider of trusted clinical technology and evidence-based solutions, has announced that the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), a part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), has added UpToDate® AdvancedTM to its range of solutions from Wolters Kluwer. The VHA claims to be the largest healthcare system in the US with more than 306,000 full-time clinicians and support staff who care for nine million veterans each year at 172 medical centers and more than one thousand outpatient clinics.

UCL Press launches new open access megajournal - UCL Open

UCL Press has launched its new open access megajournal UCL Open. The journal is now accepting academic research submissions. It is the first university megajournal providing an open access and transparent end to end publishing model, enabling research to be accessible to everyone.

O'Reilly's new survey explores tools and best practices for advanced analytics and AI

O'Reilly, a source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, has announced the results of its 'Evolving Data Infrastructure' survey, which explores the tools companies are using for their advanced analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects and the best practices they have acquired along the way. The research found that more than half (58 percent) of the present companies are either building or evaluating data science platforms - which are essential for companies that are keen on growing their data science teams and machine learning capabilities - while 85 percent of companies already have data infrastructure in the cloud.

Elsevier appoints Kumsal Bayazit as Chief Executive Officer

Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, has announced that Kumsal Bayazit has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective February 15, 2019. Bayazit succeeds Ron Mobed who, after seven years as Elsevier's Chief Executive Officer, has decided to retire. Mobed will support his successor during the transition, providing counsel and advice until June. Youngsuk (YS) Chi will remain Chairman of Elsevier.

The Institute for Scientific Information, the 'university' of Web of Science Group has launched its Global Research Reports - a new series of publications aimed at those who deal with research in academia, corporations, publishers and governments to inform, to stimulate debate and to demonstrate the rich information potential of research data. The first Global Research Report, 'Profiles not Metrics' draws attention to the information that is lost when data about researchers and their institutions are squeezed into simplified metrics or a league table.
