Frankfurt Book Fair 2018 begins

The 70th Frankfurter Buchmesse presents itself as a dynamic display of the global book and media industry. This year in Frankfurt, 7,500 exhibitors will showcase their products and markets, an increase of about three per cent over the previous year. With a share of some 70 per cent of international exhibitors, who are coming to Frankfurt from 110 countries, the Frankfurter Buchmesse underscores its position as the biggest international trade fair for content.

Elsevier and American Chemical Society file second lawsuit against ResearchGate for copyright infringement

Elsevier and the American Chemical Society (ACS) have filed a second lawsuit against ResearchGate, alleging mass copyright infringement. Last year, the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers, a group representing more than 140 publishers, wrote to ResearchGate, a popular social networking site for researchers, expressing concerns over the site's article-sharing practices.

Wiley to acquire Learning House from Weld North

John Wiley & Sons, Inc., a global leader in research and education, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Learning House, an education services provider, from Weld North Holdings. Under the terms of the agreement, Learning House shareholders will receive $200 million in cash. The transaction is expected to close on or around November 1, 2018, subject to customary closing and regulatory conditions.

Oxford University Press and Society of Breast Imaging partner to publish Journal of Breast Imaging

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) and the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) have announced their partnership to publish Journal of Breast Imaging (JBI), the first peer-reviewed journal to focus solely on breast imaging. JBI is a peer-reviewed publication that aims to provide high quality, evidence-based content for the global breast imaging medical community.

Seven publisher partners sign up to Kudos' Shareable PDF for author sharing

Kudos, a platform for managing research dissemination, has announced that seven more publisher partners have signed up to switch on the Shareable PDF (S-PDF) feature and enable their authors to use Kudos for managing and evaluating PDF-based sharing. S-PDF makes it easy for researchers to create and share plain language summaries of their work, encapsulated in PDFs that can be uploaded to PDF-based sharing services.
