2017 Frankfurt CEO Talk to feature Carolyn Reidy, CEO and President of Simon & Schuster, and Guillaume Dervieux, Vice-President of Albin Michel

Simon & Schuster's Carolyn Reidy and Albin Michel's Guillaume Dervieux will be the speakers at the Frankfurt CEO Talk 2017. The discussion will highlight strategic developments in international publishing, in particular the intrinsic relevance of books and publishers in today's global context of media competition, as well as the transformation of audiences and their cultural practices. The CEO Talk is part of Frankfurter Buchmesse's Business Club programme and will take place on October 11, 2017, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Frankfurter Buchmesse, Hall 4.2, Room Dimension.

Wiley and Botanical Society of America announce new publishing partnership

Publisher John Wiley and Sons Inc. has announced its selection by the Botanical Society of America (BSA) as publishing partner for its esteemed scholarly journals, the American Journal of Botany and Applications in Plant Sciences. Wiley will assume publishing responsibility for the BSA's highly regarded journals, beginning in January 2018.

Canadian Science Publishing in deal to acquire Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering journal

Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) and the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) have announced that the organisations have reached an agreement for CSP to acquire Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, a peer-reviewed journal that has been published quarterly since 1972. The journal is dedicated to the broad field of mechanical engineering.

ReadCube partners with scholarly Publishing Platform, Sheridan PubFactory

Technology company ReadCube has announced a collaboration with scholarly publishing platform Sheridan PubFactory. Host to scholarly content since 1999 and provider of the only truly content agnostic platform, Sheridan PubFactory will support the use of ReadCube Sharing services for publications hosted across the platform.

FASTR legislation to ensure permanency of public access to scientific research

SPARC, an international alliance of academic and research libraries working to create a more open system of scholarly communication, has applauded the introduction of the Fair Access to Science and Technology Research (FASTR) Act, which would ensure that public access to research articles becomes the law of the land. FASTR calls for federal agencies with extramural research budgets in excess of $100 million to establish consistent, permanent public access policies for articles reporting on their funded research.

Readers from TrendMD Network save 77 percent more articles to Mendeley, says study

A recent study published in Scientometrics illustrates that readers who discover articles from a TrendMD article recommendation save 77% more of these articles to Mendeley. Replicated studies have found that article saves of scholarly articles on reference managers such as Mendeley precede and predict citations. TrendMD delivers contextual article recommendations to 80 million monthly readers across 3,300 journals on the TrendMD network.
