Elsevier updates major reference work on biomaterials

Elsevier, the information analytics company specialising in science and health, has announced the second edition of Comprehensive Biomaterials II, edited by Paul Ducheyne, Kevin Healy, Dietmar E. Hutmacher, David W. Grainger and C. James Kirkpatrick. One of five new biomaterials titles, this major reference work reviews the current status of nearly all biomaterials in the field by analysing their strengths and weaknesses, performance, and future prospects.

SAGE Publishing partners with SEMPRE to launch Music & Science journal

Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has partnered with the Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research (SEMPRE) to launch a new open access journal Music & Science, providing a platform for engaged debate and insight into music research from a wide range of scientific perspectives. Scientific research is integral to gaining a greater understanding of how music is a cultural phenomenon and is yet grounded in the biology.

Thieme's Synlett journal introduces 'intelligent crowd' peer review

The chemistry journal Synlett, published by Thieme, has trialled a new system of peer review that allows a crowd of 100 approved researchers to comment on manuscripts online. The reviewers can access a secure, bespoke online platform and view papers being considered for publication. They can annotate and comment on manuscripts, as well as respond to comments left by others.

Princeton University Press has announced the appointment of Christie Henry as new Director, effective September 1, 2017. Henry will succeed Peter Dougherty, who has been director of the Princeton University Press since 2005 and will retire as of the end of 2017.
