Springer Nature and the ISSN International Centre initiate centralisation of ISSN assignment

Springer Nature and the ISSN International Centre have been initiating a centralised process for the assignment of International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSN) to serial publications of Springer Nature. The new process for requesting ISSN standardises and automates the way unique identifiers are requested, before their publication, for periodicals and books series published under the various imprints of Springer Nature.

New SPARC Europe report provides analysis of Open Data and Open Science policies in Europe

Providing an analysis of Open Data and Open Science policies across Europe, SPARC Europe has released a new report. Produced in collaboration with the Digital Curation Center (DCC), it follows on the heels of a previous work that listed national research data policies.

Internet Archive collaborates with MIT Press and Arcadia to digitise and provide access to MIT Press backlist titles

The MIT Press and the Internet Archive have announced a partnership, with support from Arcadia, to scan, preserve, and enable libraries to lend hundreds of MIT Press books that are currently not available digitally. This partnership represents an important advance in bringing acclaimed titles across the MIT Press' publications in science, technology, art, and architecture to a global online audience.

Portico announces 1,000th library supporting digital preservation

Digital preservation service Portico has announced that the University Library of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, as its 1,000th participating library. Since its inception in 2006, libraries have relied on Portico to preserve academic e-journals, e-books, and other digital scholarship, and ensure that it remains available for future generations.

OpenAIRE and ICSU World Data System in deal to advance Open Science

OpenAIRE, an EU initiative to support and implement open scholarship in Europe, and the ICSU World Data System (ICSU-WDS) have signed an agreement to strengthen existing collaborations in the field of research data and to further develop joint activities to support the Open Science agenda. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the organisations clearly states their intention to coordinate efforts in areas of mutual interest.
