Elsevier updates infectious diseases reference, announces five additional immunology, virology and microbiology books

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of an updated edition of its valuable reference, Genetics and Evolution of Infectious Diseases, edited by Michel Tibayrenc. This book is aimed at controlling and preventing neglected and emerging worldwide diseases that are a major cause of global morbidity, disability and mortality. At the same time, Elsevier announced five additional immunology, virology and microbiology books.

Wolters Kluwer's PrepU adaptive learning platform surpasses 1 billion answers

Four Thieme titles honoured at the 2017 American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence

Medical and scientific publisher Thieme Publishers has announced that four of its titles have been honoured at the prestigious 2017 American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (The PROSE Awards). Pediatric Neurosurgery: Tricks of the Trade won first prize in the category Textbook/Clinical Medicine, with Neuroendoscopic Surgery and Neuro-Ophthlamology Illustrated (2nd Edition) receiving honourable mentions in the same category. Another honourable mention went to The Surgery Journal in the category Journal/Award for Innovation category.

ARVO announces support for March for Science

The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) has joined with other scientific societies in partnering with the March for Science, a mass outpouring of non-partisan support for science and the scientific community. Philip Earis named editor of new Cell Press Energy journal - Joule

Philip Earis, a former editor at the Royal Society of Chemistry, has been named the inaugural editor of Joule, a new journal spanning energy research across scales and disciplines. Joule (@Joule_CP), launching fall 2017, will be the second physical sciences journal, after Chem, published by Cell Press, home of the high-impact life sciences journal Cell. Articles can now be submitted at www.cell.com/joule/home.

American Society for Cell Biology partners with March for Science organisers

The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) recently signed an agreement officially lending its support to the national March for Science rally and teach-in in Washington, DC, scheduled for Earth Day, April 22. Dr. Gigi Osler elected 2017 CMA president-elect nominee

Dr. Gigi Osler has been selected by the members of Doctors Manitoba to be the nominee as president-elect of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Voting took place from February 1 to 22. Pending confirmation of the nomination by General Council in August, Dr. Osler will serve as president-elect until August 2018, where she will then become CMA President.
