STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of Elsevier OnCampus, a new medical student ambassador program. Elsevier OnCampus connects medical students across the United States, allowing them to share their experience using Elsevier solutions and their advice for surviving medical school.

Wiley and the Federation of European Biochemical Societies announce extended publishing partnership

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has announced an extended publishing partnership with the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) with the publication of FEBS Letters and FEBS Open Bio. This expanded partnership adds these two leading scientific journals alongside The FEBS Journal which Wiley has published since 1999.

New findings forecast global pharma sales to reach $1.3 trillion by 2018

The Intellectual Property and Science business of Thomson Reuters has announced the release of the 2015 CMR Pharmaceutical R&D Factbook, the biopharmaceutical industry's leading resource of global R&D trends. Despite concerns around declines in R&D, the analysis identifies a surge in global sales with 2014's $1 trillion milestone and forecasts sales to reach $1.3 trillion by 2018.

De Gruyter and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry to launch Chemistry Standards Database

Available starting in 2016, the IUPAC Standards Online database will make standards and recommendations in the field of chemistry quickly and easily accessible to internet users. Academic publisher De Gruyter is developing the database together with the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the organisation responsible for establishing internationally binding standards for scientists working in research and industry, for patent lawyers and other legal professionals, as well as for environmental scientists and toxicologists.

SPIE in deal with ReadCube to increase use of SPIE publications

SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, has announced an agreement with publishing technology company ReadCube to enable researchers to find and use SPIE content to which they have access via ReadCube Discover. Used by more than 8 million researchers worldwide, ReadCube Discover will expand the discoverability of 425,000 items from SPIE's peer-reviewed journals, Proceedings of SPIE, and SPIE eBooks.

New privacy guidelines encourage libraries and vendors to work together to protect reader privacy

On June 29, 2015, the American Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee approved a new document, 'Library Privacy Guidelines for E-book Lending and Digital Content Vendors.' The document, which outlines best practices for vendors to follow to protect the privacy of library users, is intended to encourage vendors and libraries to work together to develop effective privacy protection policies and procedures for eBook lending and the delivery of digital content to library patrons. The guidelines are now available online on the ALA website http://www.ala.org/advocacy/library-privacy-guidelines-e-book-lending-and-digital-content-vendors.
