New STN breaks ground with Markush structure search and enhanced content for Intellectual Property exploration and research

New STN, a web-based search solution, offers access to essential, curated content in an intuitive interface designed for professional IP searching. COAR launches draft 'Resource Type' vocabulary for open access repositories

Open access repositories are evolving in terms of the roles they play and the attributes they aim to express in their records. Users want to know about additional metadata elements used for describing repository items, such as open access status, research funder, institutional affiliation, and so on. Given the truly international and collaborative nature of research, repositories must be connected and aligned around policy and practices, and standard controlled vocabularies are an extremely important aspect of this alignment. Through an active, international Editorial Board, COAR has begun to develop a series of controlled vocabularies for open access repositories.

Dr. Joseph Hill named editor-in-chief of Circulation

Dr. Joseph Hill, Chief of UT Southwestern Medical Center's Division of Cardiology and Director of the Harry S. Moss Heart Center, has been selected as the forthcoming editor-in-chief for the American Heart Association's principal scientific journal, Circulation. Circulation, published weekly, is the American Heart Association's peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Society for General Microbiology partners with Publishing Technology to launch new publishing platform

The Society for General Microbiology, the largest learned microbiological society in Europe, has partnered with Publishing Technology to launch its new publishing platform. Going live with a back catalogue of 55,000 articles, the new digital platform brings together scholarly content from all six of the Society's journals, including the recently launched Microbial Genomics, and has been transformed to satisfy its multi-disciplinary users across the globe, from authors and editors to readers and librarians.

City of Liverpool College joins national data centre for education and research

City of Liverpool College has become the first further education (FE) provider to move into the UK's dedicated national shared data centre for education and research. The data centre – which is offered through a framework agreement by digital technologies charity Jisc and specialist data centre provider Infinity SDC – will house the IT infrastructure for a new shared service venture the college is launching to support its core business strategies.
