Elsevier introduces nine new life sciences books at Experimental Biology 2015 conference in Boston

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of the latest edition of Knobil and Neill's Physiology of Reproduction. Elsevier is introducing this updated foundational reference on human and comparative reproduction along with eight other life sciences book titles at the Experimental Biology 2015 conference held in Boston from March 28–April 1, 2015. The new books are part of Elsevier's life sciences book portfolio and will be on display at booth # 542.

Wiley launches new open access journal spanning entire breadth of the dentistry field

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has announced the launch of a new open access journal spanning the entire breadth of the dentistry field, Clinical and Experimental Dental Research (CEDR). Dr. Asbjørn Jokstad, professor at The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, Norway, will serve as the Editor-in-Chief of CEDR.

CLOCKSS in deal with CHORUS to support perpetual public access to US funded research articles

The CLOCKSS Archive has entered into an agreement with CHORUS (Clearinghouse for the Open Research of the United States) to support the archiving, preservation, and perpetual public access to articles reporting on US federally funded research, at no additional cost to taxpayers. As a result of the agreement, CHORUS Publisher Members will be able to take advantage of a special arrangement with CLOCKSS to establish permanent, perpetual public access to content and ensure the integrity and sustainability of the scholarly record.

PennWell expands Oil & Gas Journal

PennWell Corporation, a diversified global media and information company, has announced that it will publish Oil, Gas & Petrochem Equipment (OG&PE) as part of its Oil & Gas Journal beginning in May to serve a consolidated audience of 137,000 oil and gas professionals worldwide. OG&PE grew out of Oil & Gas Journal in 1954 and has since been published monthly to cover industry equipment.

Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers celebrate 125 years of service to medical science

On the occasion of its 125th anniversary, Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers in Basel, Switzerland, has published the complete book titles since its foundation in 1890 online and is presenting Highlights and Special Publications spanning 125 years on the Karger Website. An anniversary Festschrift documenting the history and present-day activities of the independent family-run company, which is led by Gabriella Karger in the fourth generation, is also being released.

NLM to host 'Images and Texts in Medical History: An Introduction to Methods, Tools, and Data from the Digital Humanities' workshop

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) will host the workshop Images and Texts in Medical History: An Introduction to Methods, Tools, and Data from the Digital Humanities on April 11-13, 2016. The event will be funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), part of the NLM's ongoing partnership with NEH, and held in cooperation with Virginia Tech, The Wellcome Library and The Wellcome Trust.

Scholarly and professional e-books sales increase 7.7 percent in 2014, will grow an additional 6.9 percent in 2015, says Simba report

Scholarly and professional e-books sales increased globally by 7.7 percent in 2014 and will grow an additional 6.9 percent in 2015, according to the latest report from media and publishing intelligence firm Simba Information. The report, Scholarly & Professional E-Book Publishing 2015-2019, found that, although the book market as a whole has taken its lumps due to declining print sales, e-books have greater appeal with library customers, which has led publishers to reinvest in their collections.

BioMed Central to retract 43 papers for fake peer review

Open access publisher BioMed Central is retracting 43 papers, following their investigation into 50 papers that raised suspicions of fake peer review, possibly involving third-party companies selling the service. BMC has also contacted institutions regarding 60 additional papers that were rejected for publication, but seem to be part of the same kind of scam.

ProQuest has announced that its Syndetic Solutions now offers a local content option for current subscribers. By leveraging the existing Digital Asset functionality in Syndetics, libraries can now upload and access images of their Local Content Collection and display them electronically in their OPAC. Images can be of any items; maps, photos, or other historic content.

Thieme Publishers Delhi named official publisher for the Trauma Society of India

Thieme Publishers Delhi (TPD) has signed on as the official publisher for the Trauma Society of India (TSI). TPD has agreed to publish two titles per year for TSI. Guidelines in Fracture Management – Nonunion Part 1 and Guidelines in Fracture Management – Proximal Tibia were published in 2014. Guidelines in Fracture Management –Neck of the Femur and Guidelines in Fracture Management – Fractures Around the Ankle and Hind Foot will be published in 2015.
