EBSCO Publishing and Apabi partner to add Simplified Chinese e-books to EBSCO Discovery Service

Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and Apabi have come to an agreement allowing metadata from Apabi's e-book collection to be added to the Base Index of EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). The e-books from Apabi are designed to offer a vast collection in a variety of subject areas to researchers in higher education, public libraries, corporations and government.

LWW launches educational electronic health record programme, Lippincott's DocuCare EHR

Healthcare publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), part of Wolters Kluwer Health, has launched Lippincott's DocuCare EHR, an educational electronic health record (EHR) programme. The tool helps nursing students learn how to electronically chart patient care, and prepares future nurses to meet expanding industry requirements for proficiency in health information technology and patient documentation.

E-book consumers are becoming more diverse in their format preferences, says BISG Study

E-book consumers are becoming more diverse in their format preferences, says the Book Industry Study Group (BISG)'s closely-watched Consumer Attitudes Toward E-Book Reading report. The third installment in Volume Three of this Bowker-powered study shows that the percentage of e-book consumers who exclusively or mostly purchase book content in e-book format has decreased from nearly 70 percent in August 2011 to 60 percent in May 2012.

IEEE standards to improve audio/video streaming and wireless network performance

IEEE has announced the publication of two IEEE 802.11 amendment standards. IEEE 802.11aa-20121 supports more robust audio and video streaming for IEEE 802.11 applications. IEEE 802.11ae-20122 improves network performance by prioritising management frames sent on an IEEE 802.11 wireless link.

IOP Publishing appoints Prof. Mervyn Miles as Chief Scientific Advisor

Non-profit scientific publisher Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing has announced the appointment of Professor Mervyn Miles as the new Chief Scientific Advisor. Professor Miles succeeds Sir John Enderby, who retired from the position at the end of 2011 after 15 years' service. Sir Enderby continues to work with IOP as a consultant.

Future Science Group journals report significant gains in 2011 impact factor rankings

Publisher Future Science Group (FSG) has announced that all three companies operating under the FSG banner saw significant Impact Factor (IF) advances with 81 percent of titles showing improved performance. Journal Citation Reports (JCR) published by Thomson Reuters aim to provide a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate the world's leading journals. The IF helps evaluate the relative impact of a journal in its field and reflects the frequency of citation of the journal.
