Springer Nature extends support for ORCID, more authors to receive proper credit for their work

Following a successful trial in 2017 across 46 Springer Nature journals (including 14 Nature-branded journals, 10 BMC journals and 22 Springer journals), which saw the use of ORCID identifiers mandated for corresponding authors of primary research manuscripts, Springer Nature continues to avidly support the take up of ORCID, the unique digital identifier for scholarly authors. With over 5 million users registered to date, using an ORCID iD makes it easier for authors to claim ownership of a paper and for the scientific community to correctly attribute and reward authorship.

AGU unveils new journal for the Earth and Space Science community

AGU, a not-for-profit, professional, scientific organisation, has added a new title to its distinguished portfolio of journals, AGU Advances. The journal will be a Gold open-access journal. It will differentiate itself from other journals by being highly selective and will focus on publishing seminal research in the form of novel, innovative full-length papers that present new and selective scientific advances across the Earth and space sciences and related interdisciplinary fields.

David Andrews of University of East Anglia elected to SPIE presidential chain

SPIE Fellow David L. Andrews, Professor at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, has been elected to serve as the 2019 Vice President of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. With his election, Andrews joins the SPIE presidential chain and will serve as President-Elect in 2020 and as the society's President in 2021.

Atypon and Hypothesis announce open annotation integration with Atypon's Literatum platform

Atypon and Hypothesis have announced a collaboration to align annotation capabilities in Atypon's new in-browser Literatum eReader with the emerging ecosystem of interoperable clients and services for annotation based open standards and technologies.
