New engineering network, EngRN, launches on SSRN platform

Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, has announced that SSRN, its preprint server and early stage research platform, is launching a dedicated engineering network, EngRN. EngRN follows the 2017 launches of new SSRN networks in the Life Sciences with Biology and Physical Sciences with Chemistry. These are all part of SSRN's strategy to extend the knowledge and expertise it has in building research driven communities.

Editor-in-Chief of Nature Sir Philip Campbell to move to newly created role within Springer Nature

After 22 years as Editor-in-Chief of Nature, Sir Philip Campbell will move to a new role as Editor-in-Chief of Springer Nature in the summer of 2018 and continue to lead the Springer Nature Editorial Advisory Group and maintain responsibility for editorial policies across Springer Nature. Recruitment for a new Editor-in-Chief for Nature and Nature Research is underway.

ORCID User Facilities and Publications Working Group working collectively to promote facilities use

The ORCID User Facilities and Publications Working Group has issued a report that suggests a route to improved attribution and acknowledgement of research support related to use of facilities and specialised equipment, and better tools for the capture and analysis of that information. The group analysed workflows, technologies, and standards in use by user facilities and publishers, and identified key points at which information could be shared or made available to other systems.
