Springer Nature's Change the World, One Article at a Time campaign brings findings on pressing global issues to the wider research community

Springer Nature's Change the World, One Article at a Time campaign has been launched to showcase over 180 selected articles published in Springer Nature journals in 2016. Now in its second year, the initiative highlights research which could have the greatest impact on today's most compelling issues such as climate change, disease and social inequality. All articles in the campaign are featured on a dedicated website and are freely available until 31 July 2017.

Elsevier announces four new forestry and plant science titles

Elsevier, the information analytics company specializing in science and health, has announced the publication of Forest Management and Planning, Second Edition by Pete Bettinger, Kevin Boston, Jacek P. Siry and Donald L. Grebner. The book addresses contemporary forest management planning issues, providing a concise, focused resource for forest management students, researchers and new professionals. Elsevier also announced the publication of three additional plant science books.

BMC Biology becomes the first specialist biology journal to offer Registered Reports

BMC Biology has become the first dedicated biology journal to accept Registered Reports. This innovative approach to publishing allows authors to submit their rationale and methods for peer-review before any experiments are conducted. Articles that pass peer-review will be accepted in principle meaning that, as long as the study is completed in accordance with the pre-registered methodology, the article will be published following a second round of peer-review.

Dr. David J. Lipman steps down as Director of the National Center for Biotechnology Information

The National Library of Medicine has announced the departure of Dr. David J. Lipman, who has served as the Director of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) since its creation almost 30 years ago. Dr. Lipman is assuming the position of Chief Science Officer at Impossible Foods, a new company applying molecular biology to the food industry.

Knowledge Unlatched (KU), the Open Access (OA) initiative supporting monographs in the Humanities and Social Sciences, has announced the launch of geolocation data for its Open Access ebooks. The geolocation data allows for more specific observation of the usage of KU's content. Moreover, KU can now reveal the further download figures for Pilot and Round 2 titles that have been unlatched.
