Nature Communications to incorporate transparent peer review following a successful ten-month trial

Nature Communications is incorporating transparent peer review into the journal on a permanent basis, following a successful ten-month trial. In this scheme, authors are given the option to publish the peer review history of the paper alongside their published research. All papers submitted from January 2016 qualify for this scheme. Since the trial began, around 60% of published authors have actively opted into transparent peer review.

Chinese researchers responsible for 'fake peer review' scandals, says study

The BMJ-run Postgraduate Medical Journal published a study, according to which, efforts by China's government and scientific bodies to root out academic misconduct and encourage publishing ethics may help to remedy the problem. The study, titled, Characteristics of retractions related to fake peer reviews, published in the September issue, further notes that pressure to publish scientific papers at Chinese universities may explain why more researchers are creating fake peer reviewers to assess their work.

EPJ-N accepted for indexing in Emerging Sources Citation Index

STM publisher EDP Sciences has announced that EPJ Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (EPJ-N) has been accepted for indexing in the Thomson Reuters Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). This means that articles published in the journal will be searchable, discoverable and citable via Web of Science.

Stephen McLeod appointed Editor-in-Chief of Ophthalmology Journal

Dr. Stephen McLeod, the Theresa M. and Wayne M. Caygill, MD, Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at UC San Francisco, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Ophthalmology, the official journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He will assume the new role effective January 1, 2017.

Academic publisher Taylor & Francis Group and the Urban Affairs Association (UAA) have announced a new publishing partnership.
