Wellcome initiates open access requirements for publishers

Wellcome has published a set of requirements for open access publications, which will come into force next spring. The policy outlines what is required of publishers in order to receive article processing charges (APCs) from the charity. These include uploading articles to PubMed Central (PMC), making updates available to PMC if they are corrected or retracted, publishing content under a Creative Commons Attribution Licence (CC BY) and offering a reimbursement policy for APCs.

ARL appoints Catherine Davidson as visiting program officer for scholarly communication initiatives

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has named Catherine Davidson as a visiting program officer (VPO) for scholarly communication initiatives from September 2016 through June 2017. Davidson, a 2009–2010 graduate of the ARL Leadership Fellows program, is the associate university librarian (AUL) for collections and research at York University in Toronto, Canada.

Altmetric tracks data from Open Syllabus Project

Altmetric has announced that it has begun to track data from the Open Syllabus Project (OSP), which details where individual books are included in the syllabi of over 4,000 academic institutions around the world. For the first time, these unique data are combined with other altmetric indicators to provide quantitative insights that can help authors and publishers monitor the uptake and influence of their books.

Knowledge E implements plagiarism screening via Crossref Similarity Check

Information resources and software solutions provider Knowledge E has joined the Crossref Similarity Check initiative by which all submitted journal articles and conference papers are subjected to comparison with previously published articles in thousands of publications from all over the world. Similarity Check is an initiative of Crossref using iThenticate technology to detect the proportion of a research paper that contains similar phrases to previously published material.
