PETA honours Elsevier with inaugural Progressive Medical Education Software Award

STM publisher Elsevier was recently awarded the inaugural Progressive Medical Education Software Award by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The award was presented to the locally-developed Elsevier Animal Simulator software, which recreates a virtual animal laboratory for students to learn without having to maim or kill animals for dissection.

Clinicians worldwide quickly adopting Wolters Kluwer's new clinical podcast, 'UpToDate Talk'

Wolters Kluwer, a global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, has announced that clinicians worldwide are quickly adopting the innovative new clinical podcast, 'UpToDate Talk' as a convenient way to keep up with new developments in medical research. First launched in December 2015, the podcast was featured on iTunes' 'New and Noteworthy' list for Science & Medicine, with the first five episodes streamed nearly 36,000 times in the first four months.

Portico now preserves one billion files

ITHAKA, a not-for-profit leader in developing new solutions to advance and preserve knowledge, has announced that its large-scale digital preservation service Portico now preserves one billion files or, in practical terms, more than 20,000 e-journals, 400,000 e-books, and 600 million images that include vast collections of historical newspapers. Portico has also expanded its services and the files it archives by working with libraries with special mandates and obligations to preserve content.

Figshare integrates Altmetric Badges to showcase attention surrounding research outputs

Over 2.5 million research outputs deposited on Figshare will now display Altmetric Badges, ushering in a new era of data-level metrics. This new integration means that the attention data for datasets, videos, images, code and other alternative research outputs will be presented within the Figshare platform, and users will be able to access a collated record of all of the comments, shares and discussion relating to an item with a single click.

Northern Territory Library in Australia selects OCLC WorldShare Management Services

The Northern Territory Library, a major public research institution in Australia, has selected OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS) as the management system for more than 50 libraries in the region. Frankfurt Book Fair acquires majority stake in IPR License

The Frankfurt Book Fair (October 19-23 2016) has announced that it has taken a majority shareholding in IPR License Ltd, the global rights and licensing trading platform. In May 2015 it made a significant investment in IPR License but has now acquired control of the company, with Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) keeping its minority stake.
