Shortlist for The London Book Fair International Excellence Awards 2016 announced

The shortlist for The London Book Fair International Excellence Awards 2016 has been announced, with China leading the shortlists with five nominations and the USA and Australia not far behind with four each. The awards, which are held in partnership with the UK Publishers Association (PA), celebrate success in 14 categories, representing the best publishing ambassadors, cutting edge publishing, and ground breaking initiatives in the industry.

SAGE Publishing partners with the Society for Medical Decision Making to launch OA journal MDM Policy & Practice

Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has announced that it has expanded its partnership with the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM) with the launch of the open access publication, MDM Policy & Practice (MDM P&P). The sister journal of the SMDM's Medical Decision Making, MDM P&P addresses issues that affect medical decision-making from the clinical to policy levels.

Altmetric launches annual research grant to advance understanding of alternative research metrics

Altmetric LLP has launched an annual research grant of up to £1,500 ($2100 USD) to fund research that facilitates the development and understanding of alternative research metrics (altmetrics) as part of the wider scholarly agenda. Complementary to traditional indicators of influence like citations, altmetrics capture the online mentions and shares of research at the article or output level to help better reflect the online reach and dissemination of scholarship.

The Rockefeller University Press (RUP) has adopted Sheridan's revolutionary XML- based article workflow, Article ExpressTM, for The Journal of Cell Biology, The Journal of Experimental Medicine, and The Journal of General Physiology. ArticleExpress is Sheridan's new patent-pending workflow for STM publishers that replaces the traditional PDF-based article proof with a fully editable, browser-based, HTML proofing environment.

Patrick J. Flynn named Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Biometrics Compendium

Patrick J. Flynn, the Duda Family Professor of Engineering, professor of computer science and engineering, and concurrent professor of electrical engineering at the University of Notre Dame, has been named editor-in-chief for the IEEE Biometrics Compendium, the first virtual journal published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Biometrics Council. Established in 2010 and published quarterly, the journal highlights specific areas of interest in biometrics while also providing commentary from experts in the field.

American Psychological Association launches new journal – Stigma and Health

The American Psychological Association has announced that it has begun publishing a new journal, Stigma and Health. To be published on a quarterly basis, the journal will serve as a venue for articles examining research representing stigma in its various guises (e.g., public stigma, self-stigma, label avoidance and structural stigma) as it impacts people living with mental and physical illness.
