Elsevier launches new metrics on SciVal to help institutions measure the economic impact of their research

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of new metrics to help measure the economic impact of research within SciVal, Elsevier's tool to analyze and benchmark the world of research, and part of the Elsevier Research Intelligence portfolio of tools and services. The new indicators are aligned with SciVal's mission to provide a wide range of metrics to analyse and evaluate different aspects of research.

American Chemical Society names Dr. Gregory Scholes as new deputy editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has named a new deputy editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, a premier physical chemistry journal publishing original scientific advances in physical chemistry, chemical physics and materials science. Dr. Gregory Scholes of Princeton University will officially succeed Dr. Prashant Kamat, who served as the deputy editor of the journal since its inception in 2010.

CMA Board of Directors announce restructuring and modernisation plan for CMAJ

The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Board of Directors recently approved a restructuring and modernisation plan for the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ). A CMAJ Task Force, to be led by CMA Past-President, Dr. Chris Simpson, has been created to consult with members and propose recommendations on a new mission statement, goals and objectives for CMAJ. The goal is to recast CMAJ as a world-class leading journal.

Gale content now discoverable via Google

Gale, a provider of library resources and part of Cengage Learning, has reached a major milestone in its quest to improve discoverability and researcher workflow, completing indexing work with Google. Researchers can now easily discover scholarly content from Gale and its partners on Google or Google Scholar, through a pathway that leads directly to their institution or local library.

Temple University to host inaugural Publishers Reporting to Libraries Summit together with AAUP, ARL, CNI

The Temple University will host the inaugural P2L (Publishers Reporting to Libraries) Summit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 9–10, 2016, bringing together 20–30 teams of university library and press directors to explore how they may better work together in supporting the mission of the university. The summit will delve into the experience of library-press partnerships and open up new ways of thinking about the publishing enterprise as a core function of the academy.
