Chinese research must continue to transform and reform to achieve the country's goal of driving innovation-led development, says new NPG White Paper

Nature Publishing Group (NPG), part of Springer Nature, has released Turning Point: Chinese Science in Transition, a White Paper which takes the pulse of China's scientific research at a critical time in its development. It is the first report of its kind to be undertaken in China by a global publisher, drawing on quantitative and qualitative data NPG has recently gathered through interviewing and surveying more than 1,700 leading Chinese researchers.

Academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing has announced a partnership with Thomson Reuters on its newly-launched Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) to maximize the scholarly impact of authors' work. 43 Emerald journals have been accepted by ESCI. Research Councils launch new programme for all peer reviewers and decision-makers, to raise awareness and reduce impact of unconscious bias

The Research Councils have launched a new programme for all peer reviewers and decision-makers, to raise awareness and reduce the impact of unconscious bias. Over a period of three years, beginning in January 2016, more than 1,300 people involved in peer review from all seven Research Councils will be given access to high quality training designed and developed by the Research Councils and the consultants Pearn Kandola.

F1000Workspace surpasses 1m references

F1000 has announced that one million references have been loaded on to F1000Workspace - a research collaboration, reference management and authoring platform for scientists - since it was launched just six months ago. F1000Workspace is a suite of tools designed to assist biomedical researchers when writing research articles and grant applications, collecting and managing references and collaborating with co-authors.

Two scientific journals published by Ural Federal University, Russia, gaining international recognition

Quaestio Rossica (QR), a historical journal by the Institute of Humanities and Arts of Ural Federal University, has been included into the list of journals indexed by the Web of Science Core Collection. The indexing covers all issues of the journal since 2015. The first issues of the year are already available in the Web of Science.

The University of Reading has signed a multiyear agreement to expand its license for Symphony to its Malaysia campus. From April to October, Library staff worked with SirsiDynix consultants to plan the project and configure the system. The Malaysia Campus went live in mid-October.
