While intelligent tools can improve efficiency by automating reviewer matching, detecting anomalies, and easing bottlenecks, efficiency alone cannot replace the rigor, interpretation, and ethical judgment that only human reviewers bring. Over-reliance on AI risks reducing peer review to a mechanical process, undermining trust in academic discourse. The challenge ahead is to strike a careful balance—leveraging AI where it enhances fairness and transparency, while ensuring the human voice remains central.
