IEEE Access accepted into Thomson Reuters Science Citation Index Expanded

IEEE Access, an open-access multidisciplinary journal published by IEEE, a technical professional organisation advancing technology for humanity, has been accepted into the Thomson Reuters Science Citation Index Expanded. Starting with Volume 1 of 2013, IEEE Access will now be included with more than 6,500 notable journals, in the Web of Science, Journal Citation Report, and Current Contents Engineering, Computing and Technology edition.

Thieme acquires Brazilian medical publisher Livraria e Editora Revinter Ltda

Thieme Publicações Ltda, the Brazilian subsidiary of the Thieme Publishing Group, has announced the purchase of the Brazilian medical publisher, Livraria e Editora Revinter Ltda. Under the terms of the acquisition, Revinter will merge with Thieme Publicações, retaining Sergio and Laercio Dortas as consultants. The current General Manager at Revinter, Renata Barcellos, will take over responsibility for the newly merged company.

Chinese Academy of Sciences ranks first for the fourth consecutive year in Nature Index 2016 Rising Star List

The Nature Publishing Group recently released The Rising Stars 2016 List as a supplement, ordering the world's top 100 leading institutions by the increase of their high-quality science papers. Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) ranks first among peer institutions, indicating that it has become a significant contributor of high-level science papers. The Academy ranks the first for the fourth consecutive year among global science institutions in the Nature Index, according to a Index published by NPG this April.

Concordat on open research data launched

Four of the UK's leading research organisations - Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), Research Councils UK (RCUK), Universities UK (UUK) and Wellcome Trust - have launched a concordat that proposes a series of clear and practical principles for working with research data. The Concordat on Open Research Data has been developed by a UK multi-stakeholder group and is a set of expectations of best practice reflecting the needs of the research community.

STM publisher Elsevier has launched Sherpath, a first-of-its-kind nursing and allied health, adaptive and mobile-first education platform focused on improving student outcomes. Elsevier experts created Sherpath to intersperse flexible content modules with frequent assessments to support just-in-time remediation and successful progression throughout the curriculum.

Jisc upgrades Janet network

Jisc has announced that it is upgrading its Janet network to triple capacity across parts of the network over the next three years. The upgrade will see the core network capacity across some paths increased from 200Gb to 600Gb, improving potential access to distance learning and web-based educational resources while continuing to provide organisations, students, researchers, academics and staff with an efficient, high-speed network that enables effective collaboration.
