Elsevier launches new article metrics module in abstract and citation database Scopus

STM publisher Elsevier has launched a new Scopus module that will provide metrics for articles indexed in Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. The Article Metrics Module enhances the value of Scopus for researchers by enabling them to make quick decisions around articles based on a summary of authoritative research metrics.

American Chemical Society national meeting features variety of presidential events

HathiTrust Digital Library has announced its 2015 Board of Governors election cycle. Beginning August 3, the Nominating Committee will receive nominees for an election to be held in the fall. SPARC applauds Senate Committee action on public access legislation

The Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) has passed S. 779, the Fair Access to Science and Technology Research (FASTR) Act, unanimously by voice vote and moved it to the full Senate for consideration. This marks the first time the Senate has acted on a government-wide policy ensuring public access to the results of publicly funded research, and is an important step towards codifying the progress made by the 2013 White House OSTP Directive.

Paul Alivisatos, Director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California (UC) Berkeley's Samsung Distinguished Professor of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, has received the second Tsinghua University Press - Springer Nano Research Award.
