STM opens community-wide consultation on article sharing

The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) has opened a communitywide consultation into the sharing of research articles. Running from February 9 - April 10, 2015, the consultation aims to start discussion and to gain a better understanding of the current landscape of article sharing through scholarly collaboration networks and sites.

Publishers highlight continued copyright concerns in Canada and China

Canada's undefined 'education as fair dealing exception' continues to significantly undermine the rights of authors and publishers of educational materials, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP). This and other concerns were recently submitted by the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) on behalf of the copyright industries to the 2015 Special 301 Report to the U.S. Trade Representative.

Elsevier wins 10 PROSE Awards, Virtual Microscope bags Best eProduct Application award

STM publisher Elsevier announced winning 10 PROSE Awards including the Best eProduct Application award for the Virtual Microscope, an integrated browser-based slide viewer that provides access to high resolution whole slide images. Seven books and two journals published by Elsevier received a total of 10 awards at the Association of American Publishers' (AAP) Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Annual Conference in Washington, DC.

AAAS and the Science family of journals join forces with CLOCKSS to safeguard access to content

The CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) Archive has partnered with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to safeguard access to content in the Science family of journals, published by AAAS, in the event of an unforeseen 'trigger event' such as a natural disaster. Under the agreement, AAAS/Science content will be preserved in CLOCKSS ejournals and ebooks, across a geographically and geopolitically distributed network of redundant archive nodes, located at 12 major research libraries worldwide.

Hannah Telfer to present third keynote speech at Publishing for Digital Minds Conference

The London Book Fair, in association with The Publishers Association, has announced that Hannah Telfer, group director for consumer and digital development of Penguin Random House UK, will give the third keynote speech at the Publishing for Digital Minds Conference. This seventh edition of the conference, sponsored by the Copyright Clearance Center, will bring together voices from across the content industries to discuss the topics that will define the future of publishing in 2015 and beyond, to an audience of delegates drawn from over 20 countries.

Submissions now open for new OA journal, Virus Evolution

Academic publisher Oxford University Press has announced that submissions are now open for new Open Access journal Virus Evolution. The journal focuses on the long-term evolution of viruses, viruses as a model system for studying evolutionary processes, viral molecular epidemiology and environmental virology.
