Frontiers offers new Impact Metrics and access to Altmetric data

Frontiers, a community-rooted open-access publisher, has announced the release of an expanded suite of Impact Metrics and fully integrated Altmetric data. Additionally, Frontiers has expanded its collection of Impact Metrics to allow everyone to measure the impact and readership demographics for Research Topics — collections of peer-reviewed open-access articles on important themes at the cutting edge of knowledge.

Elsevier unveils new journal - Extreme Mechanics Letters

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of a new journal - Extreme Mechanics Letters. The launch of Extreme Mechanics Letters is driven primarily by the rapid advances at the forefront of applied sciences such as micro and nanotechnologies, biotechnologies, soft materials, smart sensing/actuation, manufacturing, device fabrication, many of them depend heavily on mechanics tools.

BioMed Central to publish Research Involvement and Engagement journal

Open access publisher BioMed Central has announced plans to publish the new innovative journal Research Involvement and Engagement, which aims to publish its first articles in June 2015. Research Involvement and Engagement is an interdisciplinary, health and social care journal focusing on patient and wider involvement and engagement in research, at all stages.

ORCID launches Portuguese-language user interface

The Open Research and Contributor ID (ORCID) has announced that it is expanding the languages supported in the ORCID Registry with the launch of a Portuguese-language user interface. Users may now register for an ORCID identifier and manage their account in Portuguese. This augments the organisation's current support for nine languages (English, French, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, and Traditional and Simplified Chinese), and builds upon capabilities ORCID has offered since launch for adding content.

IET and key publishers create draft recommendations to improve conference content quality

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), together with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and STM publisher Elsevier, has created draft recommendations for conference content. These recommendations are designed to uphold the quality of published research presented at scientific meetings and conferences.

Wellcome Trust partners with other European foundations to support the Europe and Global Challenges funding initiative

The Wellcome Trust has entered into a partnership with the Volkswagen Foundation in Germany and the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond in Sweden to support the Europe and Global Challenges funding initiative. The funding initiative is open to teams of researchers, working in European and non-European countries, which have research proposals that address global challenges.
